Meet Dr. Ren Massey

Hello. I’ve been in private practice and consulting as a licensed psychologist in the Atlanta area for over 25 years. I feel called to provide the services I do, and I’m thankful for my abundant practice which has allowed me to meet and help so many people grow and pursue their callings. I have had the privilege of working with thousands of individuals, couples, families, and groups in various capacities over those years, primarily through providing psychotherapy and psychological evaluations services.

Volunteering in community and professional organizations has also given me many opportunities to learn about more people’s concerns, to grow as a person and professional, and to put my values into practice. I’m grateful for honors acknowledging my efforts in several areas. I accepted the nomination for and became President-Elect (2016-17) of the Georgia Psychological Association (GPA), and then I served as GPA President (2017-18). This came after years of collaborating with colleagues on different committees, such as being on GPA’s Ethics Committee and chairing GPA’s annual conference in 2012. I was elected a Fellow of GPA for leadership in social justice issues and received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Contributions to the Psychological Well-Being of the LGBT Community from GPA’s Council on Gender and Sexual Diversity.

I completed my training and internships in clinical psychology programs approved by the American Psychological Association. I’ve authored many professional papers, including articles, book reviews, and chapters in books. Also, I have been an expert witness in numerous state and federal court cases. My forensic specialty has been in criminal cases. I appreciate working with esteemed colleagues as part of the training faculty for the Global Education Initiative of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).

Since 1989 I have addressed professional and public audiences and conducted a variety of workshops at local, state, regional, and national levels. Workshop topics include anger management, conflict resolution, stress management, assertiveness training, communication skills, relaxation training, healthy lifestyles, parenting, ethics, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Audience evaluations indicate that they enjoy and value my sense of humor, years of experience, adaptability, insightfulness, and communication skills.

Consistent with my efforts to help others live healthy, balanced lives, I make sure to play during leisure time. In addition to an ongoing love of travel and skiing, I occasionally try greater adventures at times, such as skydiving and hang-gliding. I was introduced to white-water kayaking when I was a white-water rafting guide, but now most of my paddling is on flat-water. My favorite pastime is dancing, and I especially enjoy partner-dancing in many styles, including Latin, ballroom, swing, and country-western.
